Archaeology and Aphrodite’s Rock

Choose the mosaics at Kato Pafos first, then drive to Petra tou Romiou for the coast and its association with Aphrodite. These are two different visits, not consecutive points on a city walk.

Format: Driving excursion

Why follow this sequence

Choose the mosaics at Kato Pafos first, then drive to Petra tou Romiou for the coast and its association with Aphrodite. These are two different visits, not consecutive points on a city walk.

Stops and choices

  1. Pafos Archaeological Park

Give the park its own substantial visit rather than using it as a brief shortcut to the harbour. Pick the mosaics as the first priority, then decide how much outdoor archaeology you want to add.

  2. Aphrodites Rock

Visit for the rock formation and the setting. Treat the Aphrodite story as mythology rather than historical fact. Plan a land-based viewpoint; this guide does not recommend swimming around the rock.

Practical decisions

Leave enough daylight for the coastal stop. The mythology is an interpretation of the place, not a historical birth record.
